Interdirect gets the latest Industry Insights at Technology for Marketing Expo 2017

Last month, our Online Marketing Manager, Louisa Breakell, joined thousands of fellow marketers at the Technology for Marketing Expo in London, to find out all the latest trends, technologies and big ideas to hit the marketing industry.

Enthusiastic about learning as much as possible and sharing her new found knowledge with her colleagues and clients, Louisa eagerly attended a whole host of workshops, keynote presentations and industry expert talks.  She spent time networking with other marketing experts about the science, technology and the ever-evolving art of marketing at the bustling exhibition stands.

After an exciting and busy day, and with sore feet, she headed home reflecting on all that she had learnt.  Here are some of the key points Louisa took away from the day:

  • Understanding your customers is more important than ever before, for example gaining an insight into personas, triggers and what they respond to, particularly in gaining real value from customer data and enabling you to make the most of it.
  • The timing of adverts and their messaging is becoming much more targeted – users expect to be targeted with timed messages specific to their point on the customer journey, rather than a one size fits all ad campaign.
  • Segmenting customers is more important than ever.  As the number of advertising platforms are increases (and the ad options within them grow), the capacity to waste budget increases too.
  • Many tools that seem straightforward on the surface can have many more uses that you might not have considered, for example Google Tag Manager can be used to ‘push’ temporary changes to a website without developers needing to change code. An example would be placing a social media feed on a web page, or changing web copy temporarily.
  • Certain tools can be used to provide A/B testing for meta data so you can preview results before making permanent changes.
