Breathtaking Concept Trailer from Emil Goodman

HENRY WALTZ - VISUAL TEASER from Emil Goodman on Vimeo.

The 27 year old Hungarian animator, better known for creating music videos and uber- quirky shorts (or ‘tests’ as he calls them), has made his first foray into feature length production. This surreal, darkly beautifully trailer does nothing to give any story away – indeed it’s more like one of his music videos or ‘tests’ with the narrative being as surreal as the ‘biomechanical shadow-puppet’ animation.

There is something very captivating about this monochrome blending of Russian constructivism, eastern shadow puppetry, Meccano and insects parts, with more than a little nod towards Frits Lang’s dystopian visions in his 1927 movie Metropolis. It’s an Eclectic and disquieting dream-like vision of the future as envisioned by the occupant of a 1920s asylum.

Interesting concept for an agencies site, you navigate between different videos on YouTube, the interactive network of videos acts as the website content.

You pretty much use the site as you would normally, the click on the buttons to navigate, or slide the scrubber bar to the indiocated points in the playback.

NIKEiD

Girl pressing the NIKEiD screen

This is old news, been around since 2008 but it's worth revisiting.

The immensely clever people at R/GA created an integrated digital campaign for the NIKEiD project. It allows people to customise their footwear online or at specific Niketown stores and even schedule an appointment in-store with a design consultant to help create their ultimate trainers.

As they say:

"The NIKEiD Studios, with help from R/GA, are showing how digitally enabled engagements can enrich the retail experience."

Ain't no mountain high enough?

 Biker Jumping at Woburn Woods

For the bikers of Woburn Sands, Milton Keynes and the surrounding area there is one figurative mountain that is too high to scale. Funding for a new 20 year lease of the land that their downhill trails and dirt-jump tracks lie upon is proving difficult to find. The trails are due to be flattened soon unless money can raised to extend the life of this hidden gem.

Some of the best riders in the world have graced the trails and jumps with their skills — but... the warm esteem that it is held in by bikers from around the UK seems to have been lost on the authority is in control of the lease. I’m sure I’m not the only person to have spotted some sort of social myopia in this decision, whatever authority that controls or owns the land seems to be completely blinkered to the positive effects that these sort of community projects create. And yes, it is a community project. They are a cohesive social group that share the responsibility for the upkeep of the area, they do all the repairs themselves, keep it tidy and are always welcoming to people who wish to join in, as long as they share this responsibility.

Sounds like the very model of a community to me.

On a very cynical note I suspect that the kids (I use this term loosely) are probably having far too much fun for the grownups (used even more loosely) to tolerate. l really-really hope that someone has the good sense to give the Woburn bikers a reprieve, a wealthy benefactor/sponsor can step in, or they can raise the money through donations.

Axel Peemoeller Way-Finding-System

The word "Up" in red, blue and yellow as part of a way-finding-system in a multi-storey Car park

A couple of years ago Axel Peemoeller created an amazing way-finding system.

In his own words... “While working for Emery Studio I developed a way-finding-system for the Eureka Tower Carpark in Melbourne. The distorted letters on the wall can be read perfectly when standing at the right position. This project won several international design awards”

Nice work well worth reviving.

Check out some other good  examples of the concept here and here.
