ICAEW Intranet

Interdirect revitalised the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales intranet in terms of design, content and ultimately, its usability so that it offered complete functionality and usability.

 

The Brief 

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and its members are recognised for inspiring business confidence and leading the accountancy profession.

Although the ICEAW intranet had been in existence for a number of years, only 29% of employees that were surveyed saw the intranet as an effective form of communication. The facilitation of communication between employees is vital for any business or organisation to succeed therefore, Interdirect were asked to reinvigorate the ICAEW intranet by providing them with a network that would really encourage and motivate its users to engage with and make return visits. 

The Solution 

Interdirect’s aim was to revitalise the ICAEW intranet in terms of the design, content and ultimately, its usability so that it offered complete functionality and usability. It was also vital for Interdirect to recognise that developing a service like this for business use is much more complex, as it deals with sensitive corporate and often private company data as well as publicly available information. 

Ever relishing in a challenge, Interdirect completely re-vitalised the ICEAW’s intranet and maintained the consistent informative quality whilst improving its interaction with users. Interdirect used its Iceberg technology to create a site that allowed members to customise their own homepage and select organised ‘Pods’ of information but still enabled to the ICAEW to set up news alerts. In doing so, the ICAEW has made its new intranet a site that users want to visit regularly rather than a place they simply have to visit. 

The Result 

As well as maintaining effective communications between employees and all members of the organisation, the revitalised intranet acts as an effective tool for reminding members and potential business leads of the ICAEW brand, ethos, and principals. 

Since the introduction of the intranet, designed and developed by Interdirect, in April 2008 there have been 400,000 visits to the site. This activity has in turn generated 780,000 page views and averages out at 62 pages view, per user, per month. 

A staff survey conducted by the ICAEW feedback showed that 87% of staff see the intranet as an effective channel of communication compared with 29% in the previous year.
