Tonight the winners of this year’s Newspaper Awards were announced at a glittering event held at London's Hilton Hotel, Park Lane. The annual event which honours excellence in a wide range of categories was hosted by the hilarious American comic Rich Hall whose offbeat humour and seemingly haphazard delivery kept the audience amused throughout the evening's formalities.
For many years now Interdirect has designed and hosted the Newspaper Awards’ website (www.newspaperawards.co.uk), but this year Interdirect’s involvement was even greater as Nicholas Mann, Interdirect's managing director, was asked to be on the panel of judges that selected the winner of the “Electronic News Site of the Year” award. The well deserved winner of category was the Times Online (www.timesonline.co.uk) with highly commended going to the Guardian Online (www.guardian.co.uk). Both the BBC News (news.bbc.co.uk) and the Manchester Evening News (www.manchestereveingnews.co.uk) where commended.
In commenting on the Times Online’s entry Nicholas Mann said “The website exhibits truly wonderful information design. It contains loads of content but it is really well laid out so readers should never become confused or distracted. Additionally, I loved the Times Online’s use of serif and sans serif fonts – something that is becoming increasing fashionable in contemporary website design. In spite of its size the site is easy to navigate with additional features such as breadcrumbs helping users keep track of where they are in the site.”
Mann continued “I felt honoured to have been asked to judge this category. It was a lot of work however it was also very interesting, so I’d be very happy to do it again. I especially enjoyed attending this spectacular event for the first time this year.”
